We have made grants to a broad range of programs including pre-school and afterschool activities for Canaan youth; household assistance, exercise classes and transportation for seniors; and emergency aid for residents in need. Foundation grants have also supplemented funds raised by core Canaan organizations such as the North Canaan Volunteer Ambulance, the Canaan Fire Company and the Douglas Library.
We seek and welcome gifts to the Foundation to expand our grant-making potential. Your gift is important, no matter how large or small, for it speaks of your care and love for our town and its future; and combined with the other gifts in our fund it can make a tremendous difference to our community.
Remember that each gift is tax exempt and, although we would be happy to receive it any time, it also can be part of your will or other long-term giving plans. Either way it will benefit our town not only now but long after we are gone.
The Canaan Foundation operates as an all volunteer organization, with no paid staff or fixed costs. Overhead is minimal which means that virtually all donations to the Foundation go to support community programs.
Our funds are invested and managed by the the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut and Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Through its staff and facilities we are also able to accept gifts of stocks, bonds, CDs, real estate, jewelry and other tangible personal property, and to explore various planned giving tools.
